Rhubarb Gin and Tonic

8 June 2014

I've been meaning to write some cocktail and drinks related posts for some time now and with World Gin Day coming up next weekend, I couldn't think of a better reason to start.

As anyone who has ever been stuck in a pub with me knows, I am incredibly fussy when it comes to alcoholic drinks. I usually end up the boring one with a lemonade because there's nothing I like behind the bar. Gin is usually my drink of choice, I think it has a certain sophistication to it, but more importantly, its very versatile. You can do so much more with this drink than just a simple gin and tonic and you don't need to be a mixologist.

Rhubard Gin Cocktail with IKEA syrup

If you're looking for a really simple way to spice up your g&t for World Gin Day, try a fruit syrup. There are some great recipes for how to create syrups or your own gin infusions online using fresh fruit but if you want something a little quicker, you can get the ready made kind. I found this Rhubarb Syrup in the food court at IKEA and it's fantastic.  I mixed equal parts of gin and rhubarb syrup and then topped it up with tonic water. The sweetness of the syrup really compliments the dryness of the gin and it's a lovely drink to enjoy on a summer afternoon.

Will you be celebrating World Gin Day? Leave me a comment and let me know, I'd love to hear your cocktail suggestions!

  2. You should definitely try! I found the dryness really strange at first bit I love flavoured gins so much or even just a classic g&t with some lime :) x
