The Liebster Award

26 July 2014

I've been trying to make more of an effort recently to engage with the blogging community. I was already reading quite a lot of blogs and learning and getting so much inspiration from them but as a naturally shy person with a very small and new blog to show I was too scared to really speak to people. So when the lovely Ellie nominated me for the Liebster Award I was pretty excited to get involved. I don't usually do tag posts or anything like this but I did a little research into it and it seems like a fantastic way for bloggers to get to know each other better and strike up conversations.

Basically, it's a tag for new/small bloggers (I think the rule is under 200 followers but there seems to be some variations on this - up to a 3000 follower count - depending on who you ask!) if someone nominates you they will leave you 11 questions to answer on your blog. You then have to nominate 11 more bloggers (not counting the person who nominated you!) and leave them questions to answer and so on. You'll need to visit their blog and let them know as well to make sure they can join in!

Sorry to anyone who isn't particularly interested by this (although please check out my nominees even if you don't care about my Q&A, they're all lovely!), normal posting will be resumed soon and I have some fab things on the way so stick with me.

I was pretty delayed in responding to this because things have been crazy busy and I've just not been able to keep up with reading other people's blogs as much as I wanted and before I could get this online I also got a second nomination from Hannah so I'll put both their questions below.

Questions from Ellie at Ellie Gracious.
1. What was your first blog post, and what is your opinion of it looking back?
It took me a long time to actually start getting into blogging and posting regularly so my first post was over a year ago! It was this recipe for Lemon & Lime Cake with White Chocolate Icing which I made myself for my birthday. I don't know if my writing has changed all that much (is that a good thing?) since then but I've definitely gotten more confident and am getting better at making my posts more visual. That cake was delicious though.

2. Name a song that you know all the words to.
There are so many, my brain is weirdly good at remembering song lyrics with no effort even though it's a completely useless skill so most things I listen to I know all the words.

3. Which TV show could you watch all day?
Again, there are so many - my productivity levels plummeted when I finally got a netflix subscription.I'm currently bingeing on Modern Family for a second time so I'll go with that.

4. Do you prefer savory or sweet foods?
Usually sweet but it kind of depends.

5. Whose life would you like to live for a day?
I wouldn't mind being anyone famous or a royal or someone for a day, just to see what it would really be like, but a day would be more than enough. I'm pretty happy as me.

6. What is your favourite animal?
Ducks. Although like most of the internet, I'm pretty obsessed with cats right now too.

7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I'm desperate to go to Italy. Lovely food, lovely landscapes, lovely people, it just looks perfect.

8. Who do you feel closest to?
Definitely Dave.

9. What is your goal for the next five years? Where would you like to be?
Somewhere that I can have my own pets. Lots of pets.

10. How would you spend the perfect day?
My recipe for perfection - friends, sunshine, cake.

11. If you had a million pounds (or dollars etc.), how would you spend it?
I'd definitely get over excited at first and just go buy tons of clothes and nice kitchenware and presents for friends and family but then I'd probably calm down and just save the rest.

Questions from Hannah of Baking, beauty, books and bits.
1. Why did you start your blog?
I wanted somewhere to store my recipes and a new hobby and people had been telling me to blog about something for years so I finally did.

2. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what song would you choose?
You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon. I challenge anyone to be sad listening to that song because it's not possible, it's just so good and fun.

3.What is your favourite quote?
I don't really have one.

4.Who is your favourite author and which of their books is your favourite?
I don't really have a favourite but at the moment I'm enjoying everything by John Green.

5. Where did you go for your last holiday?
This is terrible but I can't actually remember the town we stayed in. We went to somewhere down South last Autumn with Dave's family and stayed in a little lodge type thing. It was very nice.

6. What film do you always recommend to others?
Currently, Harvey because it's just the sweetest thing and I think it definitely changed my life.

7. Name one fictional character you wish you could meet.
I'd love to meet a grown up Coraline from the Neil Gaiman book. She was my absolute hero growing up and I think she'd be a really strong and inspiring woman.

8. If you had the power to change the world what would be your top priority?
Inequality. I'm not really sure how I'd fix that, it's a pretty complicated problem but maybe I'd have some sort of magical powers making me able to change the world and then it'd be a breeze.

9. Name one thing you pray would be left/safe if your house was burgled.
I'd be pretty devastated to lose anything but I don't think there is any one item in my house that I couldn't move on from.

10.If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would you choose?
I don't think I could handle meeting anyone famous or well known because I'd be too awkward to even talk to them but if I could meet any relatives I never got the chance to know, that would be cool.

11. What was the inspiration for the name of your blog?
My name is Hannah and I bake things.

My nominees
I found it really hard to pick people because it's actually very difficult to assess someone's follower count. I have people who read my blog because they're friends on my personal social media but don't actually 'follow' the blog on blogger or bloglovin because they aren't bloggers themselves. So some of these people probably don't technically qualify but their blogs are wonderful so I'm nominating them anyway because its a nice way to talk to people and find out more about them and I hope everyone enjoys getting involved as much as I have.
  1. My good friend at smishracomms.wordpress.com - because she's an incredible lady and her lifestyle blog covers all kinds of fantastic topics and its always full of tons of beautiful photography.
  2. The Stylinguist - one of the first fashion/beauty blogs I really started following and she's just a pretty nice gal.
  3. lalalasunaina.blogspot.co.uk - I only just found her blog this week and she's very new to blogging but her beauty and lifestyle posts are great and I love her friendly writing style.
  4. Matty B Bakes - amazing food with very little fuss.
  5. Room With a Bloom - another one I only found recently but I sat and read so many of her posts when I did. Filled with beautiful home inspiration and so many amazing DIY ideas.
  6. Off to the Races - her style is amazing and I'm incredibly jealous, plus the love of Lana Del Rey gets her a big tick from me.
  7. GriffBlog - another up and coming fashion blogger who gives me wardrobe envy.
  8. Cygnet Kitchen - I want to cook (or more importantly eat) everything on her blog and her food photography is wonderful.
  9. Kirsten Learns - her love of tea and beautiful home ideas have definitely won me over.
  10. Beauty, Bits 'n' Blogs -  her blog is so pretty and friendly.
  11. Me & Mr Jones - food and lifestyle posts that are just lovely.
And finally, my questions for them:
1. How did you start blogging?
2. Where do you find your inspiration?
3. What is your favourite kind of cake?
4. What is the best joke you know?
5. What kind of camera do you use?
6. What's made you smile today?
7. If you could have a super power what would it be?
8. What are your favourite kind of posts to write?
9. What is your favourite film?
10. What couldn't you live without?
11. What are your favourite blogs?
